(Proverbs 21:3) To do justice and judgement is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
The word of God unfolds to us the heart of God. From the Word of God, you will understand that it is the heart of God for His people to do justice and righteousness. God desires obedience more than sacrifice. But ironically, believers do otherwise, and worst still, instead of bowing their heads in total surrender unto God, they prefer to sow dangerous seeds and give fat offerings. It is important to know that our God is too big to be bribed, bought over or paid off.
Obedience is better than sacrifice (see I Samuel 15:13-23). Sacrifice is good but to do righteously and justice is more important to God than our sacrifices. It pleases God more for you to obey His Word, principles and precepts than to bring a huge offering, seed and sacrifice, while living in sin, unrepentance and iniquity. You cannot be singing in the choir, working as protocol, ushering people in the church, serving the children department, working as media personnel, yet be swimming in sin, and expect to hear that comforting voice of God, “welcome my faithful servant, enter into the rest of your Father”. To obey is better than sacrifice.
God is also concerned about our behavior towards people. This is why He commands us to love and to do justice. As a believer, be careful how you treat people. Today, we live in a generation where pleasing God has become very old fashioned. Some are in the church, keeping malice with their fellow believers, yet are pastor’s favourite. Beloved, God is not mocked, whatever a man sows that will he also reap. Do not cheat people or defraud them. Give people what is due them and do not take advantage of them. Those who work for you should be paid. Do not only be interested in what you can gain from them or in them working for you, be interested in their welfare.
Child of God, God’s greatest pleasure comes from you doing what is right. Your genuine and true sacrifice is first your obedience to God, in doing justice and righteousness. Our opening text says that “to do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to God than sacrifice”. Beloved, working with God is more important to God than working for Him. Therefore, ensure your obedience is complete, and then your sacrifice will be acceptable, because to God, to obey is better than sacrifice.
Meditation: Sacrifice is your service to God, while obedience is your faithfulness in the service. God is not interested in what you are doing for Him, but in how you are doing it.
