DISCERN YOUR “SEASONS” IN MINISTRY!!!
(Key To Maximizing The Moments)
During the Great Healing Revival in America, which happened between 1947 and 1958, there were three prominent faces in that revival, namely Oral Roberts, William Branham and Gordon Lindsay.
In actual fact, Oral Roberts and William Branham represented “the face” of that revival but Gordon Lindsay became prominent because he coordinated the revival through the Voice Of Healing Organization, which had about 120 ministers in it.
Gordon Lindsay was the Chief Editor of The Voice Of Healing Magazine which detailed and chronicled all the supernatural activities of that revival across board.
Now during that period, Dad Hagin was also part of the revival but not as prominent as the ministers mentioned earlier.
Most of the healing ministers in that revival were putting up tent meetings up and down, gathering crowds and commanding great results.
But you see, Dad Hagin was in the “secret”, developing his teaching ministry and ministering with the measure of Grace that God had given him.
He didn’t attempt to steal the show because he understood that SEASON IS EVERYTHING IN MINISTRY. And I want to say that again; SEASON IS EVERYTHING IN MINISTRY.
At that time, it was not really a season of global visibility for him; it was a season to prepare for his future role in the Body of Christ especially at the global level.
Today, virtually all of the ministers in that revival have gone home to be with the Lord, and as I say this with great caution, I stand to be corrected; I don’t think in the 21st century Pentecostal Christianity, there’s any minister being referred to more and being referenced more like Dad Hagin, and that’s based on my own observation.
In Africa today, and around the world, thousands of ministers still refer to the impact of Kenneth Hagin Ministries on their lives and ministry, and for those of us in the Word Of Faith Stream, that’s a straightforward “equation”.
You see friend, SEASON IS EVERYTHING IN MINISTRY. Don’t ever compare your current season with another minister’s current season.
One minister’s SEASON OF HARVEST is another minister’s SEASON OF SOWING, and we need to understand that thoroughly.
If you’re in A SEASON OF SOWING and you’re behaving or operating like a minister in A SEASON OF HARVEST, you may be killing the future of your ministry.
Once again, SEASON IS EVERYTHING IN MINISTRY. For instance, some of the fathers in the Body of Christ today may be in A SEASON OF CONSOLIDATION (to consolidate on the works that God has helped them to do and the structures they have built over the years), whereas for a young minister, it may actually be A SEASON OF FOUNDATION-LAYING.
You know; Bishop David Oyedepo once said that in 1985, he fasted virtually throughout the year (that was A STRATEGIC SEASON in his life and ministry).
Undoubtedly the things we birth forth in such seasons greatly determine the future direction of our ministries.
There’s a season in ministry where ministration doors open locally and internationally, and a week will hardly pass without having a preaching engagement somewhere (both within and outside the country) especially if one is called to be an itinerant minister.
Truth is that such a season must have been preceded by a season of soaking in the Word, developing spiritual strength and stamina and developing emotional capacity, a consistent lifestyle of prayer and devotional life, etc. without which the minister will run out of fuel.
The irony of ministry is that a minister may be eyeing that season but he may not be prepared for it – so many things to be sorted out in his life, ranging from erratic prayer and Word life to sexual weakness to physical and mental health and so on and so forth.
You see, GOD ALWAYS PREPARES US FOR SEASONS OF VISIBILITY AND MASSIVE ENGAGEMENT IN MINISTRY, and if there’s a season that all of us should not joke with, it’s THE SEASON OF PREPARATION.
David handled his SEASON OF PREPARATION well; it’s sort of A SEASON OF ISOLATION from family members and loved ones into the wilderness to TAKE CARE OF HIS FATHER’S SHEEP.
So, when THE SEASON OF OPPORTUNITY came where a platform opened up both in the palace and on the battle field, he played the stringed instrument well and he also reduced Goliath to nothing, then THE SEASON OF KINGSHIP, LEADERSHIP and MENTORING followed where he became a captain over God’s inheritance (the children of Israel) and mentored a lot of young men to become great warriors.
All through the Bible, we see DIFFERENT PEOPLE with DIFFERENT SEASONS at every point in time.
At the early stage of his ministry, we see Paul withdraw into the wilderness of Arabia for three soild years, preparing himself and then afterwards he spent fifteen solid days with Peter at his residence so as to have a firsthand and an eyewitness account of the earthly ministry of Jesus, and then his ministry exploded afterwards:
17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
We also see our Lord Jesus in what appears to be A SEASON OF ISOLATION in the wilderness for forty days and nights after which His ministry exploded – his fame spread everywhere!!!
LUKE 4:1-2, 14-15
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and THERE WENT OUT A FAME OF HIM THROUGH ALL THE REGION ROUND ABOUT.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, BEING GLORIFIED OF ALL.
Friend, DISCERN YOUR SEASONS IN MINISTRY. Don’t compare yourself with anyone. You may not be in the same season with the person you’re comparing yourself with.
Don’t be under any pressure to cut corners. And DON’T EVER ENVY THE HARVEST OF THE FATHERS. Enjoy your current season in the call and let God promote you.
That you see people bringing “SEEDS” to certain ministers and blessing them over and over again doesn’t mean as you start your ministry, you start forcing “seeds” out of the hands of everyone.
No! No!! No!!! Those ministers have laboured and God is blessing them, so no envy or jealousy here.
You too should till the ground, invest in people’s lives and let God purify your MOTIVES.
Ministry doesn’t start with platforms, invitations, visibility or seed collection. No, it starts with PREPARATION (both in prayers, in the Word and in every other spiritual and practical exigency).
That’s the way to go. Mismanaging A STRATEGIC SEASON in ministry can create a future of bleak, gloom and sorrow but for the mercy of the Lord.
May the Lord help us all!
I trust this made little sense Sirs and Mas?
