(Luke 10:41-42) And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
A goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envision, plan and commit to achieve. People endeavor to reach goals within a finite time by setting deadlines. Focus is defined as the centre of interest. Therefore, being focused is the act of putting your interest on what you have set your mind to accomplish – your goal.
The gift of life is the greatest gift of God to man, because when there is life, there is hope! In this Ember season, I am led to ask you to focus on your goals for 2021 and beyond. A wide variety of distractions threaten to steal our focus and turn us back from the goal to which we have been called. Resist every form of distraction; remember that goals are the bridges that span your dreams. “When your goal becomes your focus, you will become the focus of the world”. So no matter how hard things have been, refuse to be distracted my dear!
When Jesus was physically on earth, he went to the home of two sisters for dinner. Martha busied herself preparing a meal, providing for her guests. But Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to his teaching. Frustrated, Martha complained: “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But Jesus answered: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Serving guests is commendable, but when it distracts us from the one thing necessary, it is dangerous. Jesus also warned that “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9.62).
Meditation: When your goal becomes your focus, you will become the focus of the world”. So no matter how hard things have been, refuse to be distracted.
