AVOID WRONG ASSOCIATION (1) – Apostle Joshua Talena

(Proverbs 13:20) He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Nothing determines success like association. No matter how good you are, you will become bad if you belong to a bad company. Your friendship is your life-ship. Your friendship is your destiny-ship. How far you will go in life is not determined by God only, it is also determined by your association. Do not waste your life on the platform of a bad relationship. Who are your friends? There are consequences for sinful actions, and we must ensure not to associate with those who practice evil. It is dangerous to follow bad counsels, which are mostly offered by people who have no desire for God. Their counsels are likely to center on satisfying the desires of the flesh, acquisition of wealth, etc which are sinful in the sight of God.

Association is the platform where relationship tends towards profit or productivity. The cost of wrong association is a disaster for any individual. The Bible says that God had to take the Israelites around the wilderness so that He could deliver them from the mixed multitude (see Numbers 32:10-13). They had to go round the wilderness so that the mixed multitude (wrong association) could be downsized and the people that were not needed could be rooted out. God had to take them through the school of chiseling and sandpapering to brush out the things that need to be brushed out and brought in a generation that are prepared.

When satan wants to try to destroy someone’s destiny, he will bring wrong associations into his or her life. Wrong association will make God reverse His promise for your life. Any association that is not making your dream realized, before it gets too late, should be discarded. There are certain company you are keeping that will not make you access your inheritance.

In Philippians 3:2, the Bible says, “Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers …” This admonition is primarily for us to stay away from those who don’t want to follow Biblical standards and principles. This could be people in the same office, same church, same department, etc. The Lord wouldn’t warn us about them if He didn’t think our association with them would be inimical to our Christian walk.

Child of God, it is preferable and advisable that you only associate with people who believe what you believe and appreciate your values. Who are your friends? With whom do you constantly associate with?

Prayer: O Lord, help me to constantly associate myself with the right people who will help me fulfill your vision for my life in Jesus name, Amen.
