EIGHT MANAGEMENT SKILLS EVERY CHURCH PLANTER MUST POSSESS – Bishop Irabor Wisdom

1 Corinthians 3:6
I PLANTED!
Apollos WATERED! but GOD gave the INCREASE.

MAN must PLANT.
MAN must WATER.
Before God brings the INCREASE.

As the increase begins to come, the PLANTER must move from just a PLANTER to a MANAGER.

Remember, by WISDOM is a HOUSE BUILT Proverb 24:3

You PLANT with the Anointing, you BUILD with WISDOM.

8 MANAGEMENT SKILLS OF A CHURCH PLANTER:

1) MANDATE MANAGEMENT SKILLS:

You will see all kinds of Ministry around you that are ‘selling’ very fast but you must know what God has called you to do and keep at it.
Don’t do what is POPULAR, do what is COMMANDED.

2) MONEY MANAGEMENT SKILL:

Every CHURCH PLANTER must come in contact with MONEY.
What you do with money, shows if you are good in MANAGING MONEY.

If people can’t TRUST you with it, they can’t ENTRUST it to you.
Never keep CHURCH MONEY in your hands or in the hands of your wife.
A neutral person that is Loyal should handle it.

3) CRISIS MANAGEMENT SKILL:

There will always be CRISIS amongst Members that MUST be MANAGED.

There will always be MURMURING and COMPLAINING that MUST be MANAGED.

Moses FACED it!
The Disciples FACED it!
Paul also FACED it!

YOU too will FACE it!!.

You will have more Members who are NOT SATISFIED with how you HANDLED their CONFLICT with other Members.

4) WELFARE MANAGEMENT SKILL:

There must be a laid down procedure for every Member that should be helped.

To Help the ‘WRONG PERSON’, is to WRONG the RIGHT PERSON.

To Help the ‘WRONG PEOPLE’, is to WRONG the RIGHT PEOPLE.

NEVER help because of SENTIMENT!
Help based on COMMITMENT.

Let people know the difference between your PERSONAL MONEY and CHURCH MONEY.

You can decide what you do with your personal money but can’t decide what you do with CHURCH MONEY.

Sometimes, it is safer to help the wrong person without anyone knowing.
By the wrong person, I mean to say the person is not even qualified for such help, but needed such help badly.

For example, not a member; how do you leave members who are very committed, that are in need of help to helping a non-member.

You have to handle it skillfully or you risk offending those who deserve it.

5) OFFICE MANAGEMENT SKILL:

Every Pastor must operate an Office Setting with a STARTING TIME and a CLOSING TIME.

If you are not good in managing office setting, don’t start one, because it will affect the MOOD of the CHURCH.

When Office Staff are not happy, they have a way of polluting the minds of other Worshippers.
You will now discover when certain staff leave the CHURCH OFFICE, some Members will also go with them.

It is better not to have any Staff, than to have the WRONG ONES.

6) EXIT MANAGEMENT SKILL:

Every CHURCH PLANTER must FACE the DEMON of EXIT.

EXIT is good when the person leaving is not bitter and angry with the Ministry.

Where the person is ANGRY, you have an issue to MANAGE.

If you are not skilful in managing it, you will make regrettable mistakes.
Sometimes it is BETTER and SAFER you don’t even talk about it.
Just ensure there is no vacuum created by such exit.
Make them IRRELEVANT by REPLACING them IMMEDIATELY and don’t behave as if they ever EXISTED.

If he or she is not doing anything possible to CLOSE the CHURCH, you relate with them and allow them access to you.

But If the person in question leaves and START POLLUTING the MINDS of other MEMBERS, you MUST train your people on how to overcome such Rebels.
(Get my training material on “What to do when a Loyal Son / or a Disloyal Son leaves the House”)

7) CRITICISM MANAGEMENT SKILL:

You will always come across CRITICS, most especially if God is USING YOU.

Some will call it the POWER of the DEVIL at work in you.

Some will criticize you WRONGLY.
A few others will do it RIGHTLY.

Don’t always respond to Critics without considering the CONSEQUENCES of your ACTIONS or INACTIONS.

Sometimes, it is your RESPONSE that becomes the ISSUE you will now be FACED with, and not what made you REACT!.

  1. PEOPLE MANAGEMENT SKILL:

In Ministry, you will see all kinds of people.
You will come in contact with all kinds of people.
The Good, the Bad and the Wicked.
You will come in contact with wicked and unreasonable men.
You will see those whose mouth are very sweet to doubt but with venomous heart, yet they are all in the congregation you are pastoring. You can’t drive them away. You must find a way to manage them.
There is how to manage the poor, for the poor not to feel poor and be depressed with his poverty.
There is also how to manage the rich and wealthy, for them not to feel too important or not appreciated.
So you must know how to strike a balance.
People management will be one of your biggest challenge in ministry.
Our members are refered to as Sheeps in the Bible.
So when the Sheeps start coming, the Wolves, the Goats, the Bears, the Lions, the Serpents and other Animals will come also with the Sheeps.
Your ability to survive all of them, is what authenticates your capacity as a Church Manager, in addition to being a Church Planter.

Thanks for Reading.
