Dr. Paul EnencheMOVING FROM WHO YOU USED TO BE TO WHO YOU ARE MEANT TO BE – Dr Paul Enenche

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S): GENESIS 32:24-28

In one night Jacob disappeared and Israel appeared; in one night a person disappeared and a nation appeared

WHO WAS JACOB?

  1. Jacob was a man loved by God (Rom. 9:13)
  2. Jacob was a man of deep understanding and value for spiritual covenant and heritage (Gen. 25:32-33)
  3. Jacob was a man of altars and sacrifices (Gen. 28:18-22; 35:1)
A man of altars is a man of prayers and vows
  4. Jacob was a man of aggressive, diligent labour (Gen. 31:38-42)
  5. Jacob was a man connected to Divine direction and guidance (Gen. 31:11-13; 35:1)
  6. Jacob was a man with a warring and fighting spirit (Gen. 35:22-23; 32:24)
  7. Jacob was a man of creative ideas and Divine inspiration (Gen. 30:37)
Whenever your destiny is great, the enemy will attempt to undermine great destinies with negative battles

WHAT WERE JACOB’S BATTLES?

  1. He battled with perennial struggles (Gen. 25:22)
  2. He battled with generational limitations
Abraham’s wife Sarah was barren, Isaac’s wife was barren, and both of Jacob’s wives were barren (Gen. 25:21; 29:31)
The firstborns in their lineage did not inherit the promise
  3. He battled with the wrong label (Gen. 25:26)
The name of a supplanter, usurper and deceiver followed him
  4. He battled with questionable character (Gen. 27:21-24; 32:27)
Jacob lied that he was Esau to collect the father’s blessing, and that deception followed him for 21years until the angel came and asked again, ‘What is thy name?’
The character was so questionable that it entered the moral area
The admission of reality is the foundation for liberty
There is a glory ahead but there is an issue that can limit the glory
‘What is your name’ means who are you? What is your character and proclivities? (Gen. 32:27)

WHAT HAPPENED TO JACOB BEFORE THE CHANGE MANIFESTED?

  1. He decongested his life to be alone with God (Gen. 32:24-28)
For many of us, God is waiting for us in the closet, in our quiet time.
  2. He decided to fight it out (Gen. 32:24-28)
For many of us, God is waiting for us in the closet, in our quiet time.
  3. He decided to give up who he used to be; he decided to face reality (Gen. 32:24-28)
Only a person who wants to die hides his symptoms from the doctor
Come before God and accept reality – give up who you used to be
  4. He decided to give up human strength in order to connect Divine power (Gen. 32:25)
If you must become who God wants you to become, whatever is your strength, give it up, and God will give you what you lack.

PRAYERS
Father, tonight, bless my eyes and my ears to receive Your Word with understanding, in Jesus’ Name.

Father, I ask for the release of the Word and the revelation I need to move from where I am to where I need to be, in Jesus’ Name. (Ezek. 2:2)

Father, I come before You today and ask that the person I used to be give way for who I am meant to be; I want to face reality; help me Lord, in Jesus’ Name (Gen. 32:24-28)
