(Romans 1:4) …Christ was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by His resurrection from the dead
Easter relates to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Jesus Christ means that we are justified before God. Justification means “to be put right with”. The resurrection of Jesus confirms that God accepted Christ’s sacrifice for sin and gives us access to a right relationship with Him. Because of our sins, humanity was separated from God and incapable of our relationship with Him (see Romans 6:28 and Isaiah 59:2). Without someone stepping in to correct this situation, we cannot have the relationship with God that He intended. In the death of Jesus on the cross, God put our punishment on Christ so that we could be justified before Him.
Easter means that man’s greatest enemy – death – has been conquered. Easter means that our sins are forgiven and we are made right with God. Easter means that Christ is truly the King and Victor, seated “far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked (see Ephesians 1:21). Easter marks the day Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead. If Jesus has not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another prophet. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He is really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all.
Easter is the annual celebration of Christ’s resurrection to life after His crucifixion and death. The word Easter is related to the world east, which naturally points us to the sunrise, to new days and new beginnings. The meaning of Easter is that Jesus is the Lord of new beginnings, new days and new lives.
Christ’s death and resurrection is a daily hope of how the good will of God can overcome the forces of evil, of how truth will prevail and unmask lie, of how love will triumph over hate, of how righteousness will overcome sin, and how the blessed hope of eternal life will put an end to death.
