MODULE 10: GOD’S REWARD SYSTEM – Evangelist Ikponmwosa Oghogho

THE SEED OF GIVINGMONEY AND OTHER MATERIALS (PART2)In the last module we focused on dealing with the need to develop the right attitude towards money. We can never give sacrificially, cheerfully, willingly and bountifully as required by scriptures if we have wrong attitudes towards money. We shall take a closer look at scriptural giving attitude of Love in today’s module.A giving that emanates from a heart of love is central to giving that God accepts. No man can give sacrificially, bountifully, cheerfully and willingly if such giving doesn’t spring out a heart of love.God gives because He loves (John 3:16)We are told it’s possible to give to the extent of giving our bodies to be burnt but may not do it in love.1 Corinthians 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.Such giving doesn’t profit us anything because it was not done out of a motive rooted in love.Notice that God is looking at the rewards of the giving from eternal perspective.Such a giver may get some earthly rewards but certainly not eternal rewards because they will be burnt by fire.1 Corinthian 3:8,10,12-153:8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.3:14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.3:15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.I can die for a cause so I can be immortalized!Scripture says it won’t profit me because its born out of a selfish motive.I can give to the poor so I can receive the praises of men.I can donate heavily in Church or singlehandedly build a Church because I want my Pastor’s respect and approval. These are just a few erroneous reasons to give. They yield no eternal benefits or rewards because they are giving done with wrong attitudes and motives not based on love.If you ever have to give, do it because you love God and you love humanity.Don’t give to please or impress your Pastor!Don’t give to receive the praises of men!Don’t give because you believe the person will later give you back!Don’t give because you must receive an earthly reward in a particular way or time!Take note of this: Our rewards for giving money doesn’t always have to be money. In response to our giving, God supplies all our needs (not our wants) according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).God didn’t promise supply of all our wants but supply of all our needs! We need Obedient, intelligent and spiritual children, health, security, protection, love, favour, spiritual development, food, shelter, clothing, etc.If God opened our eyes to see the spiritual arrows and pitfalls we escaped we will be eternally grateful. How do you tell which giving translated to that need of protection being supplied. We can’t tell which giving translated to these supplies but we are assured God is faithful and will certainly supply our needs! So be careful how you accuse God that you are yet to receive a reward for your previous giving. You may have received the rewards in intelligent, spiritual and obedient children he gave you but you didn’t recognize it.Also, God may not give you the rewards for a particular giving until you enter into eternity! We are told seedtime and harvest (not harvest time) shall never cease! We can determine seed time but only God determines harvest time!Harvest time for that seed may be after you enter eternity! If you expected the harvest immediately, you can be discouraged and may judge God as unfaithful. If we have wrong attitudes towards receiving reward here on earth for our giving, we can become disappointed that the rewards didn’t come when and how we desired it.Giving for love helps us build a shock absorber that keeps us in line no matter what!We shall now look at products of love driven giving.1. Love will produce a giving that is from a willing heart.2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.The first thing God wants to see in our giving is the willingness to give.God is not asking for what you don’t have but what He has already put in your hand. However there are lots of other needs contesting for it hence God wants us to willingly choose to lay down our seeds despite the numerous alternatives available to us.2. Love will also always produce a giving that is cheerful.2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. We are expected to give with gladness or with cheerfulness at every opportunity that God brings our way.Giving out of necessity or grudge is not acceptable with God.We will always give as we purpose in our hearts not a compulsive task imposed on us in levies that we have to grudgingly pay.Even when levies are put across, someone who has been trained to always give for love will do it willingly. While I do not believe a levied agreed amount to be given by everyone is wrong, there are some issues with this practice.First, some people involved are ashamed to state their true position because they don’t want to be seen as opposing everyone else.Such levies make them give out of necessity and sometimes grudgingly! They may not tell you but that’s exactly what happens!Imposing levies automatically makes those who lack financial capacity to meet the levies to give grudgingly and out of necessity. Some of them especially men may leave church because of it.I have met many men on the streets while preaching the gospel who left church because of these issues. They felt too ashamed to be seen as poor because they couldn’t meet up the compulsory giving demands so they just left.I do not support these wrong action of these men but its something we can avoid if we create an atmosphere of willing giving. On the other hand those who could have given more are tempted to reduce the size of their giving since a levy has been imposed. As much as possible, I encourage believers, Ministers and Ministries to avoid levies because everyone is not at the same level of blessing materially.Sometimes giving may be painful due to the sacrifice involved but our right attitude creates joy in our hearts as we go through that pain of seed sowing with joy in our hearts! We will find ourselves rejoicing that we have been counted worthy to experience the pains of such sacrificial giving for the sake of the Kingdom and for the sake of humanity.3. Love will always produce a giving that strives to be bountiful.2 Corinthians 9:6-79:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. However we don’t have a command we must as a compulsive task imposed on us give bountifully.Rather we are informed that bountiful rewards will follow our choices of bountiful giving while a sparingly reward will follow our choices of sparingly giving. So wisdom demands that we choose the path of bountiful giving.Love motivated giving makes giving bountifully a natural thing to do.4. Love will always produce a giving that is sacrificial.Solomon gave sacrificially because he was moved by love (1Kings3:3)God sacrificed Jesus for the world because he was moved by love (John 3:16)The churches in Macedonia were sacrificial givers 2Corinthians chapter 8&9.God won’t force us to give sacrificially but if love drives us, giving sacrificially will be a natural thing to do.We may find ourselves giving the last money with us and may suffer lack afterwards temporarily. We may find ourselves choosing to go hungry so someone else can feed.We may find ourselves giving up our rights to pleasurable things of life so that someone else can have a better life and the kingdom can advance. One thing is sure, if we give in love sacrificially, willingly, cheerfully and bountifully the rewards are sure to follow beginning here on earth and spreading into eternity. To be continued..Shalom Greetings
