THE SEED OF LOVE
In this teaching series we have looked at some seeds we sow which are guaranteed to bring in a corresponding harvest.
In today’s module we shall look at a very important seed we can sow into people’s lives.
The seed of love!
Many people want to reap a harvest of love but are unwilling to sow seeds of love into other people’s lives.
It doesn’t work that way.
Even God had to sow love first before He could create the possibility to get the world to love him back.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Many relationships turn sour because we naturally demand love first from others before we commit to sowing love back to them.
That’s not how it works!
If we want to receive an overwhelming flow of love from others, we must consciously commit to sowing love into their lives first.
Scripture clearly gives us the attributes of the God kind of love.
13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
God’s love is very different from natural human love which is often distorted and highly dependent on circumstances and the consistency in the character of the other person.
God’s love or agape loves you no matter what and will do all that’s necessary to reach out to you.
The only problem is that you can choose to reject it and the consequences of making such a choice follows.
Jesus gave us love as His commandment.
In other words love is the only law of the New Covenant.
13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
6:2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
We commit sin only after we fail to sow the seed of love.
If we focus on sowing seeds of love we will never fall short!
Love always brings in a harvest of righteousness!
13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
We can never love the way God demands if we don’t have God’s love first planted in our own hearts.
At salvation God shed or mingled His love in our hearts so that His love can spring up from us towards others naturally.
Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
We can’t claim we love God if we are failing to sow seeds of love into other people’s lives.
4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loves God love his brother also.
In the Kingdom, one of the things that will determine our eternal rewards is our works of love.
25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
25:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
25:44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
We can’t help everyone in need but we can make sowing the seeds of love demonstrated in helping the weak, poor and needy an integral part of our lives.
Both here in this world and when we finally stand before Jesus the rewards of our labour of love is sure.
Its possible to do good things but not with a love motive (1Cor 13:1-3).
Let’s not just do good but let’s do it with God’s love as our driving force.
Evangelise for love!
Pray in love!
Give in love!
Relate with others in love!
Do all things for love!
Indeed love never fails!
Your harvest will certainly pour in both in this world and in that which is to come.
