“1 Corinthians 10:12
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall”.
One of the greatest traps set before believers today, is the posture of over confidence, which discountenances the subtility of sin, and its effects. Over the years, we have seen a consistency of believers, including great men and women of God being caught as casualties in the web of this trap, with the revelation of scandals that portray the body of Christ in bad light, and also questions the intergrity of the believer.
Some male believers have become so puffed up, that they feel they can evangelize their former girlfriends in private areas, without being acousted with fellow bethren. There are male pastors who feel so confident to visit a female member at night for prayers, because she called him that she was having a spiritual attack. What about male and female believers who are married, but still hanging out with their past lovers, or a single sister who feels she can win a man for Christ in his room. These are the many products of over confidence, that have led to devastating consequences.
I was told a story of a well known man of God in Nigeria, who is till alive and making great impact for God. He was called at the late hours of the night by a sister who claimed she needed urgent attention, that required the pastor to be physically present. The pastor took his bible immediately, and asked his wife to come with him. On getting to the house, the sister opened door, and she was naked. It was also discovered that a camera man was standing near by to take shots. If the pastor was not with his wife, how many would have believed his story?
It is however imperative for believers to thread carefully in their walk with Christ, by not taking anything for granted, no matter how ordinary it might seem.
1. Take continuous cover in the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ.
2. Ask God for help always (John 14:13-14).
3. Flee from every appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22).
4. Refuse to give room for the flesh and its desires (Romans 13:14).
5. Exercise wisdom in all things (Ecclesiastes 10:10).
6. Ask God for the spirit of discernment, and disconnect yourself from every company geared towards taking you back to your former life of sin (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
God bless you.
