7 THINGS ASSISTANT PASTORS MUST DO TO MAKE MINISTRY EASY FOR THEIR SENIOR PASTORS:
(BY IRABOR WISDOM,
BISHOP OVER ANSWERS ASSEMBLY, WARRI. DELTA STATE NIGERIA.)
The Ministry of an Assistant Pastor is synonymous to that of John the Baptist.
There are certain statements John the Baptist made in his introduction of Jesus that every Assistant Pastor must understand and pattern after.
Most people don’t like it when we train Assistant Pastors but they don’t understand that a well trained Assistant Pastor is a successful Senior Pastor in the making.
All Assistant Pastors today are potential Senior Pastors in the making.
Most of the things helping me in life today, I learnt them as an Assistant Pastor. Infact 90% of the teachings you don’t accept from your current Father, are the same teachings you will need to pass on to your Sons when you become a Father also.
1. THE ASSISTANT PASTOR MUST PREPARE THE WAY FOR HIS SENIOR PASTOR:
Meaning you must be there before he arrives at all times. When your Senior Pastor is coming, everything must be set. It is wrong for your Senior Pastor to appear in any meeting before you. In our Ministry, we have a law. Any Pastor, whether full time or part time, not on ground before the opening prayer cannot climb the Altar that day. Myself and my wife inclusive.
2. THE ASSISTANT PASTOR IS TO MAKE STRAIGHT THE PATH FOR HIS SENIOR PASTOR:
He is not to make the path difficult. To make straight is to make smooth. Never do anything that will make life difficult for your Senior Pastor.
3. THE MESSAGE OF THE ASSISTANT PASTOR MUST PREPARE THE PEOPLE TO RECIEVE THE MESSAGE OF HIS SENIOR PASTOR: John was baptising them with water unto repentance, in preparation for the baptism of Christ with the Water of the Word into the Holy Spirit and with Fire. You can see there is a connection.
It is wrong to have a revelation that destroys the very foundation of your Senior Pastor’s message and Ministry.
4. THE ASSISTANT PASTOR MUST NEVER MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO TELL THE PEOPLE WHO LOVES HIM GOOD THINGS ABOUT HIS SENIOR PASTOR: The first time John saw a very large crowd, he made mention of Jesus unto them. Don’t try to make the people forget the man that made them remember you.
Hope you are aware you can be posted out of that place? As an Assistant Pastor, if your fans and followers don’t love your Senior Pastor, you have failed in your FOLLOWERSHIP.
5. THE ASSISTANT PASTOR MUST NOT BE ASHAME TO SAY MY SENIOR PASTOR IS MIGHTIER THAN ME:
To think you are bigger than your head is to have headache as long as you are under him.
John the Baptist saw crowd before Jesus, yet he said Jesus was MIGHTIER than him. Don’t be carried away with crowd. THE CROWN ON LEADERSHIP IS STRONGER THAN THE CROWD OF FOLLOWERSHIP.
6. THE ASSISTANT PASTOR MUST UNDERSTAND THE MESSAGE, MANDATE AND METHODS OF HIS SENIOR PASTOR:
John did not only reveal what Jesus was coming to do, he also explained how it will be done, and the results that will follow.
7: THE ASSISTANT PASTOR MUST NOT ALLOW THE HUMILITY LEVEL OF HIS SENIOR PASTOR MAKE HIM FORGET THAT HE IS STILL AN ASSISTANT PASTOR:
Even though Jesus submitted himself to be baptized by John, John still acknowledge the fact that Jesus is supposed to baptize him, yet he is coming to him to be baptized. Jesus then said suffer it to be so for now, I am only fulfilling all righteousness. Rigteousnes in this context means, humility is the right way to go. I need to bend for God to bless me. I need to submit to you for things to submit to me. And immediately the heaven opened. The Spirit decended upon him as a Dove. Impartation will always flow in the direction of submission. Anywhere you see the HARVEST of IMPARTATION, someone sowed the SEED of SUBMISSION.
WARNING TO SENIOR PASTORS:
NEVER BE ASHAME TO OPENLY RECOGNIZE AND IDENTIFY THE MINISTRY OF YOUR ASSISTANTS.
Some Senior Pastors would have baptized themselves for themselves. Even though you do it, that will not be baptism but swimming exercise.
If it is baptism, someone must do it to make it acceptable.
WARNING TO THE ASSISTANT:
Never forget the good things you have said about your Senior Pastor.
When you are offended in him, never you allow offence to get at you.
The same John who introduced Jesus and said so many good things about Jesus, the same John under the spirit of offence, started asking ‘are you the one to come or do we look for another?’
Please kill offence before it kills you.
