I know a father in the Body of Christ who stands very tall and strong and has been in the limelight for many years.
He’s one of the greatest and strongest influences in my life and ministry.
When you look at his life, you will see love, humility, largeness of heart, all-inclusiveness, faith in the younger generation among other sterling qualities.
I have been following him since 2001 and he has remained so by God’s Grace.
Recently, one of my mentors called me from Europe and began to teach me life-applicable lessons in ministry.
He got on talking about THE LOVE WALK and cited practical examples from this father of Faith.
He served under him many years ago and their relationship is still very intact as father and son because he’s his spiritual father.
He told me how the man of God had gone through betrayals in ministry yet he’s been walking in love.
At a time in their Bible school, some associate Pastors of this father of Faith would be telling the students that they would go start their own ministries.
At his back, they promoted their own vision using the father’s ministerial apparatuses without the father being aware of it.
Some of them broke away and others did all kinds of funny things.
Yet till date if anyone of them invites the father to come preach for them, he would go preach and even raise offerings for them.
Blessed is the heart of such a father in the Body of Christ! And you see; till date, he has remained in the limelight.
I want to say this with every sense of decorum and responsibility; you cannot count five fathers in the Body of Christ and not mention his name.
Personally, I’m aware of betrayals he has gone through. When the enemy came like a devouring cyclone to wipe off his ministry, some sons that he raised (those who practically passed through his hands) betrayed him yet he’s been walking in love.
I learnt from him that you don’t curse spiritual children. He speaks ill of no man and his ministry has remained in the forefront for many years.
You see friend; it appears to me that as a minister, THE GREATEST LESSON YOU CAN LEARN IS TO WALK IN LOVE.
THE GREATEST LESSON YOU CAN LEARN IS NOT TO WALK IN OFFENSE.
God taught me some years ago that fathers who curse their spiritual children end up not having any children again.
Sometimes walking in love in ministry appears to be a lonely path but you’re not alone; the Lord is with you and there’s no alternative to walking in love.
You don’t really hear much about those who turned against this father of Faith but you see; as it stands today and as it has stood for many years, it’s been a global voice.
You can’t beat the power of love. Imagine a spiritual son writing you a letter that you’re not his father again and the same son goes around to demonize you yet you’re still walking in love.
When you get to that kind of level in ministry, then you know what it means to have THE SPIRIT OF A FATHER in ministry.
It appears to me that A MAJOR LESSON to learn this year is to walk in love and to aggressively resist any propensity for offenses.
You remember David; the mighty man of valour himself. The man who had such an anointing to raise sons in ministry.
I mean there was a time 400 men who were nonentities came under his spiritual oversight and they all became mighty men.
1 SAMUEL 22:2
And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.
But you see; David too had his lonely moment in “ministry”. He faced betrayal from “ministry sons” but he didn’t take offense; he rather encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
Imagine those he raised planning to stone him because of a loss he wasn’t exclusively responsible for.
On this day, David who had won many battles had a low point yet his sons didn’t reckon with all the past victories and all the good that he had done for them; they, on the other hand, said they would kill him.
1 SAMUEL 30:1-5
1 And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
2 And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
This is what some ministers have faced in ministry. David and his people wept untill they had no more power to weep – they were completely exhausted.
Now, instead of being encouraged by the people that he raised, he was rather threatened by them – they said they would kill him.
1 SAMUEL 30:6
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
Despite all of these, David did not take offense; HE RATHER ENCOURAGED HIMSELF IN THE LORD HIS GOD and the rest is history.
You see, what makes you a father in the Body of Christ is not social media activism. It is not the number of likes, comments or followers.
It’s not the crowd. It’s not the “revs” or the flows, even though all of those and many others are good.
Being a father is by CALLING, LARGENESS OF HEART, THE PRICES AND SACRIFICES PLUS CONSECRATION and AUTHORITY.
Imagine; the people that David raised wanted to stone him to death but he kept walking in love and at the end of the day, the Lord turned the tide.
Simple disagreement, you cursed people. People didn’t send seed to you and you withdrew the blessing that you released.
A son misbehaved; rather than correcting and instructing or disciplining him, you said he would hit the rocks in ministry. Where is love in all of that?
My observation is this:
(1) THE EASIEST PLACE TO PREACH LOVE IS IN MINISTRY.
(2) THE MOST DIFFICULT PLACE TO PRACTISE LOVE IS IN MINISTRY.
But one thing is very sure; trusting in the Grace of God and in the power of the Holy Spirit, THERE’S NOTHING DIFFICULT IN PRACTISING LOVE.
Love is the way to victory!
Love is the greatest lesson in ministry!!
Love is the unbreakable seal of our Christian testimony!!!
The Power Of Love Is Indeed UNBEATABLE!!!
