Tears were already on their faces as they listened patiently to her. They turned to Stella Philips to hear her own story. It took her some minutes before she could open her mouth. As soon as Sophia placed her hand on her shoulder, they noticed blood flowing down her legs. Sophia screamed and checked what really happened. Stella was equally surprised to see the blood and the other women had to guide her to the toilet. After a while, Sophia asked Vincent to take them to the hospital. Sophia repeatedly asked her questions but she refused to disclose what happened until the nurse confirmed she had a miscarriage.
“What! Who impregnated you? Tell me, who’s responsible? Sophia was distraught about this new development.
Stella didn’t respond to her questions as she was in pain. After proper examination, it was decided they must do dilation and curettage (D&C). It took the effort of Ruth to encourage Sophia and to explain the need for that operation. She was a nurse by profession. Sophia couldn’t understand why the evil occurrences hadn’t left their camp. However, Ruth reminded her of God’s promises and faithfulness to his faithful children.
“How am I sure God hasn’t forgotten us? Why hasn’t he come to our rescue? I’m tired of all these problems.” She lamented.
Ruth held her hands to reassure her of God’s promises in Romans 8:28.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
She kept her gaze on Ruth as she continued encouraging her based on that Bible verse.
“God knows what’s happening. He understands your plight. In fact, he is aware of everything and He is in control”
“In control? Why can’t he put an end to all these problems at once? Tell me the good thing about my sister’s unwanted pregnancy. Who was responsible? Why? Why my sister?” She complained bitterly.
“God is not unjust my sister. He is working out something great and His name alone will be glorified at the end. Be encouraged my sister.” Ruth comforted her.
Sophia still held her hands with tears on her face.
“We have suffered a lot and seen troubles in life. We may be beautiful outside but fears and anguish rule our hearts. I had thought giving my life to Jesus Christ meant automatic trouble-free life but…”
Ruth cut in,
“Don’t ever regret giving your life to Jesus. Remember whenever there’s a storm on the sea, the Captain never panicks but oversees the affairs of the ship and ensures its going in the right direction. Just imagine if the passengers on the ship begin to fret each time they encounter contrary wind …”
Sophia thought for a while and then replied,
“It would bring chaos and confusion. They wouldn’t enjoy the journey to their destination.”
“Exactly! Don’t you know you are on a voyage with the Captain?” Ruth asked her.
“Voyage with the Captain?” Sophia asked.
“Yes! Jesus Christ is our Captain. Believer’s journey in life is like a voyage on the sea to their final destination. On the sea of life, we encounter problems and challenges of varying degrees but as long as we acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Captain, we are sure of getting to our final destination.”
“Final destination?” Sophia asked.
“Yes! Our destinations of God’s purpose on earth and final destination in Heaven. Even, Jesus didn’t promise us trouble free world.”
“Yes! He said in John 16 verse 33 that these things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. Jesus Christ has given us victory.”
“As long as you remain with Jesus, victory is yours. When tribulation comes, be rest assured that God’s victory is yours. His grace is sufficient for you.” Ruth admonished.
Sophia’s countenance shone brighter,
“His grace is sufficient for me!”
“Yes! That’s the spirit. Keep confessing it and you’ll experience his awesome wonders.”
Sophia thanked her and was comforted. On the following day, Stella was a bit strengthened and her sister’s presence encouraged her. Ruth had already told her not to pressure her about the pregnancy. However, something kept pushing her to ask who was responsible but Ruth wouldn’t allow her. Stella asked about her school project and their Uncle.
“Everything is settled. Uncle is with his family.”
Stella turned to Ruth and thanked her for her support.
“Have you contacted your parents?
“Of course. They didn’t know anything until I told them. Their phones were faulty so they couldn’t reach me. My mother felt something was wrong and had to intensify her prayers for me.” Ruth informed them.
“Mothers are great!”Sophia and Stella said as they looked at each other.
“Ruth, here’s my mother. She has been playing her role in my life. I cannot repay you my sister but only God will repay you abundantly.” Stella praised her sister.
Sophia held her hands with tears in her eyes. Ruth stood there watching them until Sophia’s phone rang.
Ruth and Stella were surprised to see Sophia’s reaction.
What happened?” Ruth asked her.
Sophia raised her head and said…
