The two major doctrinal views of salvation started in the early 17th century and it will continue till rapture. The two are Arminianism and Calvinism. One believes salvation can be lost and the other believes it’s secured forever. Some people are just waking up to this long aged debate.

A simple analysis of John 3:16 settles this matter, if we are open to absorb the truth.

There’s a difference between eternal salvation and eternal security. Big difference!

By eternal salvation, the scripture simply means that the salvific work of Jesus can not be invalidated. God’s work is constant, it can’t change, it’s immutable. Whether you agree or not, His work is valid.

On the other hand, eternal security means once you are saved, you are always saved even if you stop believing in Christ, denounce Him and turn to an atheist. Is this true?

Let the Bible answer this question πŸ‘‡

John 3:16
New International Version
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The above scripture is the one that best defines salvation. God doesn’t have problem with lingua franca. He is the author!….the word used here is “…whoever believes..”. Hope you know that’s present continues tense?

What that simply means, is that your salvation is based on your continues believe in the finished work of Christ….the just shall live by faith. Salvation is eternal, but your security in this eternal work is your continous faith in the finished work of Jesus. What Jesus did wasn’t temporary, it was eternal, but your faith must be continually placed on Jesus as cited by Jesus, the owner of salvation….whoever believes shall not perish….not whoever believed shall not perish. This alone solves this whole argument. The scripture says if anyone draws back, my soul shall not find pleasure in him.

Listen, their are apostates, it is clear in the Bible, just that some people keep a blind eye on this πŸ‘‡

Hebrews 6:6

and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.

This category of people are those who defaulted John 3:16, they renounced their belief, they denounced Christ. They no longer put their faith on Christ’s finished work….even though the work is eternal but they are not part of that eternal REDEMPTION for not believing again.

A Pastor who later turned an atheist and publicly rejects Christ is no longer saved…don’t be deceived, if he dies in that state, he died an apostate. Your father can have great wealth but you can decide to walk away from it.

Jesus emphasized it again when He told them of the last days event;

But the one who endures to the end will be saved Matt 24:13

The word endures in the original is unwavering, which is same as faith. Your faith in Christ must be till the end. Let no body deceive that if you renounce Christ or stop believing in His finished work, that you are still saved.

Conclusion, salvation is eternal but my security in this eternal work is my faith in Christ’s finished work. Don’t be deceived!
