5 Ways To Light Up Your Environment – Awe Hilary

satan infiltrates the world by introducing darkness into every sphere of human life and endeavors. The prevalence of darkness lies in our inability to effectively light up our environments with the light of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ spoke in the book of John 8:12, saying

“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life”
It is our responsibilty to be a light to the world, but how do we light up our environment?

John 3:3

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Being born again is a conscious decision of inviting the light of the world into our lives, by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Saviour.

John 8:12

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

When we accept Jesus Christ into our lives, His presence transforms us by giving us a new identity (2 Corinthians 5:17), through the remission of sin by the blood of Jesus christ, and the renewal of our minds, that we may rightly discern what is good and the acceptable will of God (Roman’s 12:1-2, Ephesians 4:23).

2 Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

The word of God gives us a better insight into the nature of God and enlightens us about our roles in maintaining the sanctity of our relationship with Him.

Psalms 119:11

Your word I have hidden in my heart,That I might not sin against You.

The volume of the word of God stored in our hearts is a reflection of the consistency in reading, listening and meditations of His word. The word of God enlightens our path by allowing us to observe carefully what is written (Joshua 1:8), that we may not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners (Psalm 1:1-6).

In so doing, our lives become a replica of the life of Christ here on earth. The level of the word of God we carry, depends on how bright and far reaching our lights become

Ephesians 5:11

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

Having received the nature of Jesus Christ, we must not go back to our former state which ascribed us with the qualities of darkness, but walk as the children of light (Ephesians 5:8). The children of light are those who find expression in the truth (Jesus Christ), that their deeds may be clearly seen as carrying out God’s will (John 3:21)

As Christians we must walk consistently as children of light by showing forth all the goodness and righteousness of God according to His will, plan and purpose. The Holy Bible must be our standard and everyone around us must see Christ in us.

However, whenever we are asked to do anything contrary to the word of God, we must vehemently refuse by not partaking in the meal of the unrighteous.

Mark 12:30

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.

Mark 12:31

And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Love is the greatest law given by God, and Jesus Christ was an expression of the Father’s love to us. Love is the nature of Christ, and as Christians, love must never depart from our lifestyle.

However, we must show love to everyone around us, irrespective of tribe, religion or nationality, for the Holy Bible tells us to love our neigbours as ourselves. When we radiate love in our daily living, we attract people around us to study the nature of Christ embedded in us, and by so doing we lead them to Jesus Christ.

Love is a true test that we have been born of God, and have the knowledge of God, for everyone who does not love has no knowledge of God (1 John 4:7).

In a world filled with so much hatred, we must be ambassadors of love, by overcoming evil with love (Romans 12:21).

Hebrews 10:25

not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

As believers we must not forsake the gathering and fellowship of our bethren in regards to the worship of our God.

Matthew 18:20

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

The gathering of believers in the name of the Lord, brings down the power and light of God to that environment, hence subduing the works and activities of darkness.

Fellowshiping with the bethren helps us to continually exhort one another in the word of God, thereby depriving us of those things that would lead us away from Christ through wrong association .

The world needs light, and we must rise up to the occasion of lightening up our environments, by exercising our capacity as children of light in influencing our environment through a life that depicts the righteousness of God.

NOTE: For you to be a light to the world, you must first come to the Light Himself, Jesus Christ. I encourage you to give your life to Jesus Christ, because He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6)

God bless you.
