(Key To Structuring Your Life For Transgenerational Impact)

By Pastor Bimbo Animashaun

What you know and master early in ministry will affect a sizeable portion of your future in the call.

And a wise minister will subject what he knows to periodic review in the light of God’s Word.

If your definition and understanding of GREATNESS IN MINISTRY is not sound, it will affect the expression of your calling and manifestation of your grace on the landscape of time.

It is wisdom for you to define “GREATNESS” early in ministry. This goes a long way in delivering you from insecurity, preserving your value and impact and also prolonging your life.

Faulty perspective is a terrible thing in ministry. Satan cannot tamper with your ministry until he gains an inroad into your mental space.

A minister must therefore avoid extremes on all levels!!!

There are people who believe that to become GREAT indeed, one doesn’t need the good things of life like houses, cars, wealth, money, fame, connections and what have you.

They maintain that those things are not needed. They are unnecessary!

And the extreme version of that ideology is that those material things of life will obstruct one’s eternal salvation.

To this set of people, to live on a low key, just minding one’s relationship with God, not having big dreams and what have you will suffice. But that’s not a balanced perspective.

There’s this second school of thought also that maintains that “GREATNESS” in life and ministry is all about having the aforementioned good things of life and nothing more.

That also, is another extreme. Truth is that YOU CAN’T BECOME GREAT IF YOU LIVE FOR YOURSELF ALONE.

While it is true that every believer is GREAT by the virtue of their connection to Christ, “GREATNESS” in the context of God’s eternal counsel however covers a broader spectrum.

Greatness in the Kingdom thrives on SERVICE, IMPACT, VALUE-ADDITION, etc.

Your GREATNESS LEVEL is measured by your SERVICE AND IMPACT LEVEL, nothing else.

Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us THE MOST VALID AND COMPREHENSIVE definition of greatness in the Book of Matthew:

25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be GREAT among you, let him be your minister;

27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your SERVANT:

Somebody may ask; how do I serve others and impact them?

Very simple: find out the plan of God for your life and serve your generation through it. That’s what David did:

ACTS 13:36
For David, after HE HAD SERVED HIS OWN GENERATION BY THE WILL OF GOD, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

Very strong!!! That’s how to go about it dear friend. David was indeed GREAT by all standards because he SERVED HIS GENERATION BY THE WILL OF GOD.

If you have ever travelled on a pilgrimage to Israel before, you will discover the place of honour that David holds in the history of the Jews.

Just touring the city of Jerusalem, you will see different monuments built to the rememberance of David. That was a man who SERVED his generation.

Find out what God would have you do on earth and then key into it – Acts 9:4.

By so doing, you’re already impacting lives because every purpose in Christ is to GLORIFY and EDIFY – to glorify God and to edify men.

Never compare yourself with somebody else. You’re uniquely different in the light of God’s purpose for your life.

At a time, three great giants of Faith, viz: Dad Hagin, Oral Roberts and T. L. Osborn stayed within the same premises yet they had seperate assignments to their generation.

Dad Hagin was a Prophet and Teacher and he started a Bible School; Oral Roberts was a great healing minister and God also instructed him to start a University while T. L. Osborn was an apostolic evangelist who traversed the length and breadth of nations with the Gospel of Christ with attending signs and wonders.

They stayed on their lane and the three of them were GREAT in the truest sense of that word.

Dad Hagin never started a University but his teachings (to my mind) have heavily shaped Pentecostal Christianity in contemporary times like no other minister.

The message here is to SERVE YOUR GENERATION BY DOING GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR LIFE, and then you’re on the path of GREATNESS.

Let nobody tell you that you can’t have the good things of life or that you have to be a poor minister or that it’s not about RESULTS.

Friends, IT’S ABOUT RESULTS – fruits and proofs of God’s purpose for your life while lives are heavily blessed and impacted through your ministry.

It will not reduce God to bless you with ALL THE GOOD THINGS OF LIFE to enjoy them – 1 Tim.6:17 and to make you MORE COMFORTABLE so that you can continue to impact lives.

You know; at times people misapply this scripture:

LUKE 12:15
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Jesus didn’t say that I don’t need the abundance of those things; He only said they don’t define my life and worth.

Of course I need them (and I don’t have to be covetous to have them) but the real essence of life is blessing and impacting other people’s lives.

You need to be in a good frame of mind before you can begin to talk about blessing lives. We need to get our theology right in ministry.

God can bless you with any good thing in the physical realm of life so far you’re SERVING AND IMPACTING PEOPLE’S LIVES.

So, REAL GREATNESS in ministry is doing the will of God for your life, and by extension touching lives across board.

Don’t settle for smallness. Don’t say you want to give God glory by living in obscurity.

In the final analysis, you should always know that the rantings of men don’t matter.

Fulfil your destiny. Enjoy your life. And add value to your generation, for you have an audience of One i.e. GOD, and He has set the parameters of GREATNESS forth in His Word.

BEING GREAT IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD is what matters; not the negative comments of people around you. That’s what we learn from John the Baptist’s life:

LUKE 1:15
FOR HE SHALL BE GREAT IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

Choose to be GREAT!

Don’t settle for SMALLNESS!!

God’s GRACE is SUFFICIENT for you!!!
