5 Areas Every Christian Needs To Be Zealous For God

Zeal is described as the eagerness to do something, especially to achieve a particular goal. The Psalmist was quoted as saying, ‘’The zeal for your house has consumed me (Psalm 69:9).’’ A man that is zealous for the things of God cannot be discouraged, no matter the trepidation, assaults or sabotage, he faces.

Without zeal, no believer can serve the Lord with all strength. It was the zeal Jesus had that made him to drive away, those buying and selling in the Lord’s Temple (John 2:13-17). Nevertheless, there are major specific areas where every Christian must be zealous;

  1. In Giving

2 Corinthians 9:2

For I know your EAGERNESS TO HELP, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were READY TO GIVE; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action

Paul, the apostle was boasting about the Church in Achaia who had members that were zealous in giving. He said that, they already had the eagerness to help and they were ready to give. That’s amazing! I believe that is how every good believer should be.

We must not be zealous when it comes to the aspect of prayer alone. Hence, we must be tireless, cheerful and consistent in giving towards the work of God. There are times, the Pastor of your does not need to make any announcement, before you know that certain things, need to be fixed in your Church building. That’s zeal!

Owning to the foregoing, I make bold to say, you should be zealous in giving.

  • In Prayer

Colosians 4:12

Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. HE IS ALWAYS WRESTLING IN PRAYER FOR YOU, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.

Living without praying is not only dangerous but disastrous. Prayer is not optional but compulsory because we are to pray without ceasing. Prayer gives humanity the opportunity to meet with divinity.

Therefore, it is excessively dangerous for a believer to be prayerless. Every Christian should be zealous in the area of prayer. Epaphras was a man that was zealous in prayer, wrestling always in prayer for the saints.

  • In Service

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Whatever your hands finds to do, do it with all your might…

The Lord is giving us a charge today that we must be diligent and serve with all our heart. Serve your country, Boss or Church with all your heart. Do everything as unto the Lord not unto any man.

God is the rewarder of men. In serving the Lord, be instant in season and out of season. Refuse to be a busybody. Make sure you are doing something legitimate that gives you profit, so as not to be the tail in life.

  • In Your Study

Joshua 1:8

Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth; MEDITATE on it DAY AND NIGHT, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

For us to succeed in God’s way, we need to be studious. You cannot afford be a mere Christian who has no understanding of the Scriptures. Joshua was giving a charge to study the Word both in the day and in the night.

Therefore, zeal is required for us to be consistent in studying the Word.

  • Evangelism

Christ commanded to preach the Gospel to every creature, baptizing them in the name of the Father, son and the Holy Spirit. We must be energetic and be zealous as regards our approach to evangelism (Matt. 28:19).

Many churches have abandoned evangelism. This is a wake-up call! We need to be zealous and win more souls for Christ. Let’s use every opportunity to preach the Gospel.
