1 Corinthians 7:20
Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
When I was sent to start the church in Enugu, I felt the best way to gather people quickly was to show that I was very anointed and the best way to prove that I was very anointed was to ensure the ‘move of power’ in every service-now what we consider the move of power was people falling under the anointing and breaking chairs.
I wanted to be exactly like my Senior Pastor and other Senior Pastors within the commission who flow very well in that realm. After the first two months, the church wasn’t growing as expected despite the ‘move of power’. I also discovered that I was struggling to make the power to move except in some occasions.
I have always been very impatient with anything struggles, so I went to God in prayer to know why I was not seeing the drastic ‘moves of God’ and growth as expected.
The Spirit of God said to me ‘IF YOU DON’T STOP THAT THING YOU WILL STRUGGLE AND SUFFER. WHO TOLD YOU THAT THAT IS A PROOF OF MY PRESENCE. LOCATE THE TOOL I HAVE GIVEN YOU, SHARPEN AND DEPLOY IT WITH FORCE, YOU WILL SEE RESULTS’
I started paying attention to the teaching grace, sharpening and fine tuning it (which I am still doing even now) and the town opened up. While teaching, tumors will disappear, sickle cell diseases got healed and many other drastic interventions and the church began to grow exponentially. We started running four services with overflows in our first year of operation.
Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer are all balls but they are not played with the same rules. Lawn tennis and table tennis are all tennis but are not played with the same rules. The ball touching your hand in soccer has consequences just as using the leg to kick basketball is equally unacceptable. Know which ball you are playing and understand the rules governing its play.
David was given the catapult not the armour of Saul. Joshua was given the commandments not the rod of Moses.
In ministry as well, know what you have been asked to do and remain faithfully committed to it. God will not announce you through a tool He did not give you because you sent yourself there.
Saul became a national celebrity when he defeated the Ammonites with his armour while David became a national celebrity when he defeated Goliath with his catapult.
The armour of Saul can never bring down a Goliath. The rod of Moses may have parted the Red Sea but it was not designed to dry up River Jordan. The backing of God is always on the tool He gave you not on the one you borrowed without His permission.
Never condemn a tool you don’t understand its use simply on the ground that it doesn’t work for you. Don’t also establish a formula out of the tool given to you as a standard for any result in ministry. God is too dynamic to be predicted or straight jacketed.
Be inspired by other people’s tools and celebrate them without forgetting that yours is by no way inferior to theirs. Every calling is a high calling but it takes a high cost to give it a global colour!
You shall excel exceptionally in Jesus name!
