He must increase, but I must decrease – George Chukwu

John the Baptist saw Jesus walking by and said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”Immediately, the two disciples with him left him and followed Jesus – and never returned. And John of God didn’t have a problem with that. People coming to him didn’t excite him, and people leaving never bothered him. Blessed consecrated heart and life.Modern preacher: Jesus stole my members.Sometime later, after John had identified Jesus, John’s remaining disciples came, “Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness – look he is baptising, and all are going to him.””All are going to him.” They wanted to stir John to envy and jealousy, you see.The God’s man saw through their pettiness and graciously – graciously, because John was not known for his graciousness – gave them a good dressing down and trimming,“A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’ 29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:27-30)”He must increase, but I must decrease”That is the secret of the greatness of the man.

He knew it was not about him, but about Him. He was content with his place and secure in himself and his own grace and assignment. If Jesus is glorified, he is happy. The trouble with many who are using God’s name is that we want to increase at the expense of Jesus. Let me ask you, why are you doing what you are doing? Why are you making the posts? That Jesus may increase, or using Jesus to make a name for yourself and building a following? If you’re doing it for your own reputation, for self, well, you will probably get the likes and the following, but you will have no reward.

God is going to judge the secret of men’s hearts by Jesus, my dear brethren. We had better cleaned up and have our eyes single for the glory of God. God help us all.
