Relationships are a key feature of human living. As each day passes by, new relationships are formed, while others get broken. No one living or dead can claim to have existed alone – that is to say, without having one type of relationship or the other, either with family, friends, colleagues, business associates etc.

The type of relationships that we create or the alliances that we form, defines us in many ways, either positively or negatively, hence it is very important that we carefully evaluate our relationships or alliances at any given point in time.

The word “unequally yoked” is not limited to the unbeliever alone, but forming an alliance with every form of ungodliness.

A believer is said to be unequally yoked, when he/she is;

1. In unity or harmony with ungodliness. That is to say, one flesh with the ungodly (1 Cor. 6:16-17, 2 Cor. 6:15).

2. Finds a common ground or basis for agreement with the ungodly (Amos 3:3, 2 Cor. 6:16).

3. In alignment with the ideologies of the ungodly, with the aim of achieving a common purpose, that falls short of the standard ordained by God (2 Cor. 6:14, Ephesians 5:7).

4. Overshadowed with the identity of the ungodly (2 Cor. 6:17, Isaiah 52:11).

The admonition by Apostle Paul to the Corinthians with respect to being unequally yoked, is not a precipe for hatred, but a clear demarcation of identity.

1. LOSS OF IDENTITY – 2 Cor. 6:17

Our identity in Christ is not by self proclamation of being children of God, but by the fruits we bare. The fruits we bare validates our identity, whether we are of God or the devil.

When we become unequally yoked, there is a transference of satanic fruits which tries to infiltrate, alter and distort the good fruits which validates our identity in Christ. A continuation of such relationship, presents an unhindered access to the influx of polluted fruits which seeks to dominate the life of the believer.

The identity of a believer is lost, when his/her life is dominated by fruits which are not of God, because fruits are a measure of identity. This is the reason why a Christian yoked with a womanizer will surely become a womanizer one day, while the other yoked with a drunk will also become a drunk someday, etc.

The bible in the book of 2 Cor. 6:17, is encouraging anyone who has been unequally yoked to come out of such alliances or relationships and seperate his/herself, touching no unclean thing that they will be received of God.

A loss of identity in Jesus Christ, invariably means taking up a new identity with satan, promoting his works and advancing his kingdom. When you loose your identity in Christ, you become a tool in the hands of the devil, to do his will and actualise his purpose.

In the world today, many are promoting satan’s agenda, because they have become one flesh with the ungodly. The bible in the book of 1 Cor. 6:16, tells us, that he who is joined with an harlot, is one flesh with the harlot. Inorder words, we take up the identity of who we are associated with, or become a product of the relationships we create.

When you become one flesh with the harlot, your life becomes a vessel for the advertisement of whoredom, which is a promotion of satans agenda to lure people to the slaughter house – (PROVERBS 7:22). Same also goes, when you become a member of a satanic group or organisation, your spirit becomes one with whatever spirit controls that organisation, hence you manifest the fruits of that spirit, by promoting his agenda, which is satans agenda. The bible tells us in the book of 1 Cor. 6:17, that he who is joined unto the Lord, is one spirit with the Lord.

However, it is imperative that we check ourselves and ask these questions;

a. What spirit is my life operating on?

b. Is my identity still in Jesus Christ?

c. Am I promoting satan’s Agenda through my life style?

The sincere answer to the above question will always keep us alert and incheck, because being unequally yoked is creating a pathway for the advertisement of satan’s products.

Satan never desires anything good for anyone, and an understanding of this will make you flee from any unholy union. When you become unequally yoked, you create a conducive environment for the devil to manifest and fulfil his three fold ministry – To kill, steal and destroy. The sole aim of satan’s promotion of unholy unions, is to destroy the yoked. There are many people, who have lost their lives or their destinies cut short, simply because of the relationships or alliances they were involved in, while others are on the fast lane to hell, if they dont retrace their footsteps. Being unequally yoked is not worth it, we should as a matter of urgency re – evaluate our relationships, because they determine who we are, and where we will spend our eternity.

The Holy Bible prescribes three steps to remedy every unequally yoked relationship, which can be found in the book of 2 Cor. 6:17. These steps are;

1. Come out from their midst:

The first step to destroying every unequally yoked relationship, is to listen to the voice of God, for He is saying to you, “come out from them”. He is calling you out of darkness unto his marvellous light, from sin unto righteousness, from being a slave to becoming co-heirs with Christ. Listen to His voice, because He never lies, and you can never go wrong with God.

God called you out of their midst, because He wants you to seperate yourself. You cannot experience God when you are in the company of devils, because light and darkness cannot be found together. The separation of oneself, is creating a conducive environment for God to work on you, undoing every evil that has been done, and perfecting His plan,will and purpose for you.

There are many who find themselves going back to unequally yoked relationships, because they touched the unclean thing that made them unequally yoked in the first place. To be free from the bondage of being unequally yoked, we must flee from anything and everything that defines an unequally yoked relationship.

Then end is near, and anything that will deprive us from inheriting the kingdom of God, is of no value to our lives and must be discarded. We must carefully evaluate and re-evaluate our relationships, because they define us in many ways, and have a bearing to our destination (Heaven or Hell).

1. Any power or personality, deafening my ears to the voice of God, loose your voice over my life, in Jesus name, amen.

2. Any power or personality, sponsoring unequally yoked relationships in my life, I refuse to remain your project, loose your hold over my life, in Jesus name, amen.

3. Any power or personality, sending agents of darkness to me in disguise of being friends, in order to yoke me to an unholy union, you will not find me, loose your direction, in Jesus name, amen.

God bless you.
