CONCENTRATION IN PRAYER AND FASTING ~Rev Joshua Talena

(Psalm 1:1-3) Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Praying and fasting is a form of enhanced and deep communication with God. When you fast and pray, you should detach yourself from every other thing in order to concentrate fully. A time set aside for fasting should be a time of separation and self-consecration. By prayer and fasting, you set every other thing aside to commune with God. Some Christians do not understand what it means to pray and fast. I want you to make the most of this period of fasting and prayer and separate yourself to God. It is your duty to force your mind, your spirit and your body to concentrate when praying and fasting. The flesh does not like spiritual exercise. Your body will give you reasons to downplay the seriousness of time set aside to pray and fast. If you must attain in fasting and prayer, you must constrain your mortal body and your mind, bringing them under subjection to the will and intent of the Holy Ghost.

A time for a fasting and prayer should be time to rid yourself of anything that distracts you from spiritual intimacy. Even if you have to go to work while praying and fasting, be in the spirit. Do not engage in anything that could do not add spiritual value. Stay away from needless discussions when praying and fasting. Too much talk depletes you of Holy Ghost unction. As you pray and fast, you have no business hanging out with friends who will chat with you until you lose focus of your primary aim of praying and fasting.

You must stay away from distractions and separate yourself when you fast and pray. When you pray and fast, it is not every company that is good for you. Stay away from people and places that pollute your spirit man with sin and works of the flesh. During this fast, I want you to cut off from all purposeless associations. Your future is much more important than the fleeting pleasantries of staying with people who can add nothing to your destiny.

Child of God, your companions during this fast should be your Bible, The Shepherd’s Guide, word/sermon notebook, messages that are edifying and spiritually enhancing.

Meditation: Cut off from all purposeless associations. Your future is much more important than the fleeting pleasantries of staying with people who can add nothing to your destiny.

RM: It is time to Pray. DBR: Genesis 31-32

Prayer: Lord, I consciously separate myself from anything and from anybody that could impair my spiritual life. I remain resolute to a deeper walk with you in Jesus name, Amen.
