As we serve God in ministry, it is very easy to become fixated on the WORK He has committed into our hands. We are concerned with manifesting His power, with results, with methodology, with people being blessed, and so on.
Many times, we are so engrossed in all these that we inadvertently shove our WALK with God into second place!
However, our ultimate usefulness to God is NOT really in the WORK we do for Him – however lofty that work is, or however spectacular the results are. Rather, it is in our day-to-day WALK with Him. This is the true source of ALL genuine spiritual work.
It is only those that continually wait on God that are able to run and not be weary, walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31). WAITING ON GOD is the real Christian work. The work itself is NOT the work.
For, indeed, it is possible to do spectacular work for God, and in His name, while God is not a part of the work at all! This is the lesson of Matthew 7:21-23. These servants did mighty things in the name of Jesus, yet they ended up in hell!
But if our focus is on our WALK with Him, and we allow Him to dwell and rule in our hearts, He Himself will do His work! Philippians 2:12-13 makes this point very clear: “… it is God which worketh in you BOTH TO WILL AND TO DO of his good pleasure.” God is the eternal Doer.
He does not need our ingenuity. He does not need our expertise. He Himself is the Doer. All He requires is A YIELDED VESSEL through whom HE WILL WORK. Becoming a yielded vessel is the product of a close WALK with God, waiting on Him consistently.
This is how Jesus puts it clearly in John 14:10: “… the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” God is the Doer.
So, today, do not be overly obsessed with the work of God, or with position, or with title, or with the resources needed for God’s work. If your focus is 100% on being a yielded vessel, you’ll eventually discover that God knows how to do His work – in HIS OWN TIME, in HIS OWN WAY, and with HIS OWN RESOURCES.
In summary, our WORK for God is very important. But this work can only flow from a faithful, diligent WALK with Him. It is this WALK that transforms us into His image, NOT our work for Him per se.
From today, right from this moment, let’s re-evaluate and strengthen our daily walk with God. This is the GREATEST SOURCE OF STRENGTH in our Christian ministry.
