TEXT: Romans 8:14-17
When you are adopted as a child of God you receive two things: A NAME and AN INHERITANCE.
For a child to be your child, he/she must answer your name. That is why Bible says “And if children, then heirs; … if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together (Romans 8:17).
To carry a name means we are conformed into the family status: our old lives are past; now what the father has we have, it is ours.
INHERITANCE in the context of scriptures is something you did not work for but called to receive; and as heirs of the father, we are joint-heirs in Christ. We become as Jesus in the eyes of God (Gal. 4:4-6).
NB: God is God to the unbelievers; but He is a father to you. and when you call Him father, you have right into all he has.
Read: Gal. 3:27-28 – we have become one with Him in Christ Jesus.
Read: Gal. 4:7
Being a servant of God is good (most times people see humility in it) but sir/ma, you are a son. In the Old Testament they are called servants, but not so in the New Testament.
See what they did in the Old Testament though they were servants: the Patriarchs made the sun to stand still, they raised death bones, they shut the mouth of lions, etc See Heb. 11. How much more we who are sons? Greater things shall we do in Christ Jesus.
Being sons is not gender sensitive, in scriptures every woman too is son – God’s operations transcend gender.
SONS CAN DO BEYOND WHAT SERVANTS CAN DO
(Eph. 1:3-11) – every son have access to the inheritance of his father.
NB: Every father gives and leaves inheritance to his children. Fathers leave wills for their children.
A will is written document containing inheritance be quitted by a willer to his children. And for a will to be of force, the willer must die; Jesus didn’t just die, he rose again the third day to be your lawyer and make sure that what he wrote in the will you enjoy all.
Read: Eph. 1:6,9,11.
The Bible is a container of two sets of will:
(a) The Old Testament (Will)
(b) The New Testament (Will)
The Old Will is conditional covenant whilst the New Testament is unconditional covenant (Heb. 8:8-11).
NB: We are offspring of Jehovah we have His Gene (Acts 17:28).
HOW DO I RECEIVE INHERITANCE?
(a) Through the door of Grace (Acts 20:32; Gal. 4:1)
You must love and know the word. The elements of the world are sickness, attacks; but when the fullness of time comes – when you come of age, grown. If you don’t grow in the word you will groan under tutors and governors (Uncle Joe – the devil). Our inheritance is healing, favour, grace etc. Gal. 3:16. Grace simply means taking you out of the scene and bringing God into the scene.
NB: You don’t sweat to enter into your inheritance.
(b) Inheritance are received by righteousness (Eph. 1:14, Rom. 4:13). Remember, the righteousness is not of the law. You can’t carry the Holy Ghost and do wickedness…
Read: Romans 4:2-9 – what is righteousness? It is standing and hanging on the finished work of Christ; Not do and don’ts as obtained in the law.
(c) We receive inheritance by faith (Rom. 4:16-17)
(d) By enforcement
Salvation is an invitation for inheritance/provision (Luke 11:29-30).
WHAT ARE WE TO INHERIT?
(i) Inheritance of Heaven (going to heaven is a gift not a reward) – 1 Peter 1:4
(ii) Inherit the world (Rom. 4:13-14, Gal. 3:9)
(iii) Provision (Acts 14:17)
(iv) All that God has and all that God is
Read: Psalms 24:1, John 16:15, Psalms 65:9-11, Psalm 104:24b
One of the area of taking your inheritance is your feet – I declare your feet blessed in Jesus name.
